How long will it take to receive my certificate?
This depends if you live inside or outside Alberta. For applicants inside documents are mailed within three days. For applicants outside Alberta, documents are mailed within five days.

Can I request a birth certificate for anyone?
Only certain relatives can request a birth certificate for another person. However, anyone may request a birth certificate if the birth record is over 100 years old.

I don’t live in Alberta, can I still obtain a birth certificate?
Yes, you can still obtain an Alberta birth certificate. However, you must apply through a different office and the wait period might be longer.

What do I need to get married?
To get married in Alberta you will first need to acquire a marriage license and registration of marriage form. You can do this at any registry agent in Alberta.

How do you register a marriage in Alberta?
When you receive your marriage license, you will be given the Registration of Marriage form. Once you have completed the form it becomes a legal document of your registration of marriage.

What are the requirements to obtain a marriage license?
You need to be over 18 to obtain a marriage license without your parents consent. If you are under 18, you need to have legal consent from your parents. You must also be single for your wedding to be legal. Also, both parties must be able to understand spoken English. In cases where a party cannot comprehend spoken English, the parties must bring along an interpreter.

Can I get a marriage license issued to another person?
Yes you can if the other person is a specific relative of yours. However, if the marriage occurred more than 75 years ago, then you can get a marriage certificate issued to any other person.

Can I obtain a death certificate for anyone?
You can obtain a death certificate for any member of your direct family. However, if the death occurred over 100 years ago then you can obtain a death certificate for any person who died in Alberta.
